Containers of blood and used syringes found in Arkansas River

Biohazard specialists are investigating

At least nine biohazard containers have been found in or along the Arkansas River in Pawnee County in the last two weeks.

Taylor Smyth found five of the containers floating down the Arkansas River on Saturday. He told KFOR he thinks someone has been dumping the medical waste off of a bridge upstream.

"There's no telling how long this has happened or if it's happened more than once," Smyth said. "It's sickening to think that there's a possibility that someone could get hepatitis from something like this, the possibility is very real I think."

The Pawnee County Sheriff's Department believes a hazardous waste clean-up company is the culprit.
