Americans will spend $700M on Valentine's Day ... for our pets

Valentine's Day is about two weeks away and it's not too soon to start planning something romantic for that special pet in your life.

The National Retail Federation is forecasting we'll spend more than 700-million-dollars on our pets this Valentine's Day.

A record one in five (21.2%) say they will include Fluffy and Fido in their Valentine's Day plans, looking to spend a mere $5.28 on average – which equates to a whopping $703 million on pint-sized gifts of all varieties. (NRF)

It's certainly nothing compared to the amount humans will spend on each other this holiday, a number that will reportedly hit a record $18.9 billion. (EliteDaily)

The figure seems incredible, but it’s just an increase in pets that’s to blame. All those millions really breakdown to a not-so-insane total of $5.28 per pet, which is the cost of a bag of cat treats or a good toy.
