29th annual Chili Bowl kicks off Tuesday

Hundreds of racers in Tulsa for 5 days of open-wheel racing

The Chili Bowl Nationals: A Tulsa tradition that’s still going strong.

Every year, the Chili Bowl attracts racers from all over the country and even all over the world. It’s not uncommon to see some celebrity racers like Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne in town for the event.

This year’s event is expected to be the biggest one yet, with over 300 racers signed up to compete. Drivers are coming from 36 states and four countries.

The Garth shows, all sold out, are bringing 17,000+ people into downtown each night. And thousands more are going to make their way to Expo Square for the Chili Bowl.

This year, the Chili Bowl falls right in line with round 2 of the Garth Brooks concerts at the BOK Center, so it’s an economic fantasy for the city.

That gives Tulsa a whole new level of exposure and the potential to make millions in sales taxes.
