Young black bear stuck in homeowner’s tree

Experts are stumped on how to get him down

(BROKEN ARROW, Okla.) - A two-year-old black bear decided to take a nap in a tree near 101st and Oneta Rd. Thursday morning in Broken Arrow.

Now the bear can’t get down.

Animal experts are on the scene trying to coax him down with a treat.

Neighbors tell FOX23 they usually don't see bears.

They can't tranquilize the animal because he's too high and antique tractor parts are in the way at the bottom of the tree.

Trenda Overacre says, “I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know there’s bears out in here. “

The two-year-old bear has been in the tree for hours.

Craig Endicott, with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, says the black bear isn’t a threat to humans.

The animal was probably looking for dog food or bird seed when the land owner’s dogs chased the bear up the tree.

Endicott says, “They’re just looking for an easy meal. And so they become just a nuisance.
