59-year-old doctor joins Oklahoma National Guard

Believed to be the oldest person to ever join the Guard

The Oklahoma National Guard says it might be a first.

A 59-year-old doctor from Edmond has signed up to serve.

Dr. Brian Levy said he was trying to think of some way he could help the National Guard and was inspired by his son Chris, who just finished a tour with the Guard in Afghanistan.

After that, he'll report to his first assignment in Durant, with the 180th Cavalry Squadron.

Now, one age-waiver and one swearing-in ceremony later, he'll be headed to San Antonio for officer-training.

He says some might worry about the drawbacks of his age, but he sees the benefits of 30-years of medical experience.
