Woman survives car crash only to be run over and killed going back to her car

No arrests yet

Brittany Leith hit the center median before her car flipped, landing on its roof along the side of the highway.

Another driver stopped to help Leith break out a cracked window and crawl out of the car, bruised, but alive.

That’s when the mother of a three-year-old made the decision that would cost her life.

As she reached inside she was hit and killed by another passing car. That wasn’t the last of the crashes. Another driver later plowed into one of the state police cars on the scene to assist with the cleanup.

The New York Post reports with no police on the scene and "despite warnings from the motorists who had assisted her," Brittany went back to her car to recover personal belongings.

The trooper is in the hospital with unknown injuries.

As of now, no charges have been filed but an investigation continues.
