Woman accused of trying to sell her children

Suspect needed money to bond boyfriend out of jail

A Sallisaw, Oklahoma, woman is in the Sequoyah County jail following her arrest for attempting to sell her two children to a woman in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

22-year old Misty VanHorn was arrested by Sallisaw Police.

Police say VanHorn contacted a Fort Smith woman about buying VanHorn's 2-year-old and 10-month-old for $1,000 each or both for $4,000.

Detectives say VanHorn told them she needed the money to bond her boyfriend out of jail.

The Fort Smith woman called the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, who notified Sallisaw Police.

VanHorn was booked into the Sequoyah County jail on a complaint of trafficking children.

Her bond was $40,000.

Both children were placed into state custody.
