White supremacist propaganda hits record levels in 2022

The Anti-Defamation League added the "OK" hand gesture to its list of symbols of hate.

Incidents of white supremacist propaganda distribution and events reached an all-time high in the United States in 2022.

The Anti-Defamation League’s annual assessment of propaganda activity recorded 6,751 incidents in 2022.

White supremacists targeted Oklahoma communities 169 times –a 164 percent increase from the previous year.

Propaganda was reported in every state except Hawaii, with the highest levels of activity in Texas, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Michigan.

“It’s disappointing and alarming to see the growth of white supremacist propaganda being spread in Oklahoma,” said ADL Regional Director Stacy Cushing. “We believe we have reached a critical time in the fight against extremism and bigotry. Now is the time for all of us to support our neighbors and reject the intimidation efforts of white supremacists in our communities.”
