White powder sent to Creek Nation office found to be harmless

Hazmat determined substance was harmless

Hazmat crews were called out to investigate a letter with a white powdery substance that was mailed to a Creek Nation leader Wednesday.

The Creek Nation offices in Okmulgee were quarantined as a precautionary measure.

The Emergency Management Director for the Creek Nation James Nichols tells KRMG several agencies responded, including the FBI.

Hazmat determined the substance was not harmful. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, emergency crews left the scene and the quarantine was lifted.
