What separates a tornado warning from a watch

A tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m.

National Weather Service explains why were not in a tornado warning.

"Right now we are under a watch because we don't expect a tornado to be imminent," National Weather Service says. "Basically, when a watch is issued, literally, that's the time to watch out.  There's a high chance something can happen while the watch is out."

What causes a tornado warning to be issued in our area?

"That means there is a storm out there and either it has been detected on radar or we have actual spotters out there looking at a tornado," National Weather Service says.

When a warning is issued, people in the effected area should take the proper action the National Weather Service says.
