Waste-to-energy plant ordered to halt production

Ensure that no fetal tissue is used to generate power

Commissioners in Marion County, Ore., have given final approval to an order to stop a waste-to-energy plant from receiving medical waste until procedures are in place to ensure that no fetal tissue is used to generate power.

Commissioners Sam Brentano and Janet Carlson say they were horrified to learn that the Marion County Resource Recovery Facility might be burning such tissue that came from British Columbia.
