"Walking awkwardly," leads to man landing in jail

Airline passenger was smuggling heroin

Customs and Border Protection officers were curious as to why Bernard Charles was walking so….funny.

The native of Trinidad and Tobago was also described as “visibly nervous,” and avoiding eye contact.

When they decided to check more closely, officers patted him down and found a “hard object in his groin area.”

New York Field Operations Director Robert Perez told the New York Daily News, "this seizure is just another example of our Customs and Border Patrol officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illegal drugs."

That object turned out to be just under two pounds of heroin worth $70,000.

US Homeland Security confirmed Charles is being held on several charges, including drug smuggling.

If convicted, he’ll face a decade in prison.
