Voters decide in one week if liquor stores can open on Sundays

Never mind Bloomberg, Bernie, or Biden, the biggest issue on the ballot for many in Tulsa County on Super Tuesday might be BOOZE.

Voters will decide a week from today whether to let liquor stores open on Sundays.

We asked Ian Sproul at Biergarten Wine and Spirits in Jenks if he even wants to open on Sundays.

Sproul says the ability of the nearby Reasor's, for example, to sell wine and beer seven days a week gives the grocery store a clear advantage.

“OH yeah I want to be open Sundays,” he said. “We pay rent seven days a week, why not make money seven days a week.”

He says they've lost a lot of wine sales since grocery stores were allowed to start selling it.

But he says they've adapted, adding coolers and staying open later, to compete.

Besides Tulsa County, people in Creek, Muskogee, Oklahoma, Washington, Kingfisher, and Cleveland counties will also be voting on the same issue.
