Video: Sneaky fans trick hoops team into shot clock violation, twice!

Columbia loses by nine

It worked so nice they did it twice.

Spartan fans at the Michigan State-Columbia game in East Lansing, Michigan began counting down as the shot clock ran.

But the sneaky crowd was purposely mistiming their count so the Columbia team would think they had more time than they really did.

Columbia coach Kyle Smith told MLive “they’re the best-coached fans I’ve ever seen. They duped us on the backwards count or whatever.”

Two straight times the chants worked and the shot clock ran out before the Lions could get a shot off.

Smith shook his head as he continued. “I think my one guy had a brain freeze because he was right in front of me, and there was like four on the clock, and I’m like, ‘Take a look.’

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance but he was complimentary of the fans calling them “a lot more aggressive than the players on the floor, so I thought they did a hell of a job tonight.”

The Spartans won the game 63-52.
