Video: Giant waves causing damage, delight in California

Weather expected to calm down by the weekend

The huge waves are being generated by Hurricane Marie and are drawing extreme surfers and onlookers in throngs.

The 25-foot waves pounding ashore In Newport Beach, California may be fun to look at, but not for those living nearby.

Residents in Seal Beach found water inside their homes and across the channel, a boatyard on Catalina Island was damaged when heavy surge tossed giant boulders onto the shore.

Access has been cut off in several locations but conditions are expected to ease by Friday, allowing most beaches to reopen.

One surfer was killed near Malibu Tuesday and lifeguards up and down the coast report being constantly busy rescuing swimmers and surfers alike.
