A man who was fatally shot on Saturday at the Knights Inn motel at 11th and Garnett has been identified as Carlos Carson.
Carson was shot by a security guard, Christopher Straight (pictured).
Straight was arrested on a first-degree manslaughter complaint.
The two had gotten into a fight, but Tulsa Police Homicide Detecitve Brandon Watkins says Straight had pepper-sprayed Carson for no apparent reason before the fight.
“When you start an altercation, you kind of forfeit your right to self-defense,” Watkins said.
Police say Carson wasn't even on the Knights Inn property when Straight pepper-sprayed him.
Straight is a former guard at the Tulsa County Jail.
Records show he was investigated or reprimanded three times during his time there, but the reasons are not public.
