Very Cool: Commercial chopper turned into combat machine

It's called the 407MRH, and it has pilots and crew lining up to give it a try.

“This is amazing,” Spc. Jessica Sanford said as she looked over what is essentially a commercial vehicle turned into a weapon.

Fox News reports NorthStar Aviation builds the light attack copters, and they fill them with the latest in military hardware.

And it can be fitted for close air support or carry longer-range Hellfire missiles on four weapons platforms attached to the body.

The craft has an electronics package that includes moving maps, HD video, targeting, and communications capability.

It has a night-vision interior and Sanford says, a ton of room in the cockpit. “Everything is so clear and easy to access,” she beamed.

But the best part of all may be the price, just $9 million each.

“Not everybody has $80 million to buy an Apache,” the company’s technical director Gunn commented.

NorthStar has already contracted with the United Arab Emirates for 30 of the aircraft with interest also coming from South America, and Eurpoe.
