Vacationer drowns after lifeguard refuses to help

Wife was told her husband was too far out

Mark Stoneberg and his wife were on vacation at the beach when he was swept to sea while surfing.

Mark’s wife Nancy ran to a lifeguard and policeman who were nearby but both of the men told her Mark was too far out and they could “try searching in the morning.”

Mark Stoneberg’s body was recovered the next day. The couple were in Sayulita, Mexico not far from Puerto Vallarta.

Stoneberg called it “kind of a flippant attitude, it was insane.”

Nancy told KARE-TV in Minneapolis that she was able to convince someone with a boat to help her try to find her husband but by the time they began searching it was evening and they had no luck.
