The United States Postal Service has released the results of a survey which shows eight in ten Americans favor the plan to change the mail delivery schedule.
USPS announced last week it would end the Saturday delivery of letters and limit the Saturday deliveries to packages only.
The survey, conducted by an independent market research company, was conducted between Feb. 8 and Feb. 11 and showed a large margin of respondents favoring the plan across age groups, income levels and different community types, including urban, suburban and rural.
Overall, the survey showed 80 percent favored the new six-day package, five-day mail delivery schedule.
The survey asked: Do you support the decision of the Postal Service to begin delivering mail five days per week and packages six days per week, including continuing package delivery on Saturdays?
USPS says when it asked if people would support the new delivery schedule if it helped stabilize Postal Service finances, favorable responses rose to 85 percent.
10,002 U.S. residents aged 18 and over were surveyed and the margin of error is calculated at ± 3.1 percent.

The new delivery schedule is set to begin Aug. 5, 2013.
