A woman suspected in a home invasion held police at bay for about an hour and a half after at least one officer opened fire on her vehicle.
The incident began with a home invasion near N. Cincinnati Ave. and E. 49th Street North about 7:00 a.m.
Police say when the arrived, the suspect was gone but the victim gave them a good description of the vehicle, which officers pulled over near E. 36th St. North and N. Peoria Ave. a few minutes later.
At that point, at least one officer fired into the vehicle, striking the woman.
The female driver, identified as Shelia Ann Wright, 54, initially stopped, but then did something that made officers feel threatened, according to TPD Ofcr. Leland Ashley.
She drove away, and ended up in the driveway of a home northeast of E. Apache St. and N. Peoria Ave.
Officers pursued Wright to that location, near 2700 N. St. Louis Ave., but she refused to exit the pickup truck.
Police fired a number of "pepper ball" rounds into the truck in an attempt to force her out.
Eventually, police approached the truck and opened the passenger side door, pulling the woman out as she screamed unintelligibly.
Ashley told KRMG they did recover a firearm from inside the truck.
He didn't know yet if Wright might have fired at police during the course of the chase or the standoff.
No one else was hurt.
