A man gunned down in his yard outside a north Tulsa home may have worked for the City of Tulsa as a truant officer, according to neighbors.
Police have not released the identity of the man, found shot to death a few feet from the curb outside his home in the 4500 block of E. Young Court, near E. Apache St. and N. Yale Ave.
His son, Unique Moore, identified him as Wayne Bell, 42.
Neighbors tell KRMG they heard the gunfire some time between 10:30 and 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, but thought it was fireworks and didn't investigate.
The call came in about 7:25 a.m. about a man down, and when EMSA and TFD paramedics arrived on the scene they discovered the body, and soon realized he was suffering at least one bullet wound.
They also say the Bell worked for the city as a truant officer, and also at Jackson Elementary School as a coach and substitute teacher.
A crime scene technician confirmed that at least one shell casing was found at the scene, approximately 25 feet from the body.
The body was lying behind an overturned garbage bin, making him difficult to see from the street.
Police won't speculate yet whether the bin may have been arranged deliberately to obscure the body.
It's very early in the investigation, and KRMG will add more details as they become available.
