Suspect held child hostage for over four hours

Update

Tulsa police shoot a man after he holds a 2-year old girl hostage for several hours.

The 44-year old man had forcibly entered the house near 4300 South 170 East Avenue before police were called at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday.

Police waited, but the man refused to release the girl and surrender.

Tulsa Police Officer Leland Ashley said, "Several hours we were out here. The subject was armed with a gun (and) proceded to walk out on the balcony."

"At this time officers fearing for that child's safety took a shot killed the suspect. (The man) died at the scene. The child was uninjured."

The man was estranged from the child's mother, but was not the girl's father.

Tulsa police are investigating a domestic standoff with a gun.

We're told a man refused to release a child from his grasp in a neighborhood near 4100 South 177 East Avenue around 11:41 p.m. Monday.

Police were using a cell phone to try to negotiate with the man.

Police tell us the man was visible with a gun in his hand and was refusing to release the child from inside the house.
