Tulsa urgent care clinics treating numerous flu patients

Doctor recommends prescription medication Tamiflu

The spike in flu cases has doctors offices across Tulsa packed with patients.

Dr. Todd Hoffman with St. John Urgent Care says flu season started early this year.

Hoffman says, "What we're seeing right now is a huge increase in the volume of flu-type symptoms. This is one of the busiest or worst flu seasons we've seen in recent years."

Dr. Hoffman also recommends a flu shot for virtually everyone.

Dr. Hoffman says prevention is the key. He recommends washing your hands frequently. He also recommends coughing into the crease of your elbow instead of your hands.

He says that it is not to late to get that flu shot if you haven't received one yet.

If you do become sick with the flu, Dr. Hoffman recommends a prescription medication called Tamiflu which he says stops the spread of the virus in your body.

Dr. Hoffman also recommends pushing the fluids to keep yourself from getting dehydrated.
