Last week, the Tulsa City Council voted to extend the city’s mask mandate and lower the age requirement.
After the unanimous vote by the council , the mask ordinance will remain in effect until January 31, 2021.
The amendment to the ordinance also lowered the age of those required to wear masks in Tulsa to 10 years old.
“I thought that that was a great vote of confidence by the council in the value of the mask ordinance.” Bynum said.
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum told KRMG on Monday that he is grateful for the city council’s support.
Bynum went on to say the ordinance seems to be working in Tulsa.
“We have seen our overall cases decline significantly since we’ve put that in place.” Bynum added. “More importantly, we’ve seen our hospitalizations significantly decline.”
Bynum said hospitalizations are down 35-40 percent since the ordinance took effect.
Bynum extended special thanks to the city councilors who voted against the ordinance the first time, but voted in favor of the amendment.
