The Tulsa City-County Library system offers ebooks, magazines, newspapers, and downloadable music, all free with a library card; now, they've added streaming movies.
Called "Freegal Movies," the service allows patrons to stream three titles a week.
Users get 48 hours to watch the film as many times as they like before the loan expires.
As with the other library services, all a user needs is a valid library card.
They do have to wait six months before they can stream the same title again.
Sue Anderson, Manager of Collection Management for TCCL, tells KRMG the service offers about 5,000 movies, with more coming.
"There's all kinds of wonderful movies there," she said.
She added, "It's a very, very simple interface to use, which we love. It has a lot of great movies right now. None of them are brand new, blockbuster movies, but that's all licensing. People who are familiar with streaming movies at home are familiar with that."
Some of the titles she named included High Noon, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Chinatown.
Users can download an app for iPhone or Android devices, or stream the movies on a PC or Apple computer without a software download.
"The app is pretty smart. I have started on my computer and then gone to my phone and picked it up, and it continued where I left off," Anderson says.
She says the films are generally from the old Paramount and Warner Bros. collections, and many titles are available that can't be found on other streaming services.
