Tulsa area first responders assist with hurricane recovery in Louisiana

Police, fire & power crews to assist in Hurricane Laura response

The Oklahoma Standard stands strong in 2020 as first responders from Tulsa are stepping up to help with recovery efforts in Louisiana after Hurricane Laura made landfall as a Category 4 storm.

Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency Director Joe Kralicek said Thursday Tulsa firefighters will assist in search and rescue efforts, including helicopter searches.

Kralicek said Tulsa police officers will assist with evacuee transportation and sheltering.

The Public Service Company of Oklahoma is sending 263 workers to help local crews restore power to affected areas.

First responders from surrounding communities are also assisting with recovery efforts in Louisiana as part of Oklahoma Task Force 1.
