A Tulsa County deputy pulling over a car for an expired tag ended up busting two people the Secret Service was hunting as suspects in a large counterfeiting operation.
It happened about 1:00 a.m., according to Maj. Tom Huckeby with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
The Secret Service knew there was phony money circulating in Tulsa, and had an idea who they were looking for, Huckeby told KRMG.
The counterfeiters were using the phony bills to buy prepaid credit cards, investigators say.
But the deputy was simply doing his job, pulling over a car for a tag violation, when he cracked the case.
They're warning the public to be on the lookout for the fake bills that have already been passed.
They were apparently tens and twenties, Huckeby said.
The two men arrested by deputies are Dustin Hinton, 22, and Robert Newsom, 28.
