Tulsa County Democrats gear up for next week's convention

Now it's the Democrats' turn.

Roughly 7 delegates from Tulsa County will be joining Democrats from around the nation in Charlotte, North Carolina next week for the Democratic National Convention.

As for whether there's an advantage in holding their convention second, Tulsa County Democrats Vice-Chairman Michael Whelan said he thinks President Obama will use his experience to find it.

KRMG News asked Whelan for his thoughts on the Republican National Convention.

"I think it definitely benefits the President to go second," Whelan said.  "But either way, I think the convention is more for each party's base than for the entire electorate, even though people watch with interest."

He said he was most troubled by Vice-Presidential nominee Paul Ryan's speech.

"Once those statements were fact-checked, everyone including Fox News said a number of things that he brought up were either patently false or incredibly out of context," Whelan said.

Whelan said he thought Clint Eastwood's speech was odd.
