Tulsa businesses fed up with Lewis Ave. construction delays

Some are used to it; others are ready to see it open

The construction project at I-44 and Lewis has been a hassle for drivers and business owners alike for nearly two years.

Now, closer than ever to completion, further delays have some nearby businesses on edge.

KRMG spoke with Tony Owens who just opened Variety Vapor and Video Games a few blocks south of I-44 on Lewis. Owens said business has been slower than he expected, even factoring in the reduced traffic due to the construction.

As of Wednesday, Tulsa drivers got a sample of what’s to come though. ODOT opened the eastbound off ramp from I-44 to Lewis and the eastbound on ramp from Lewis (ramp is at Atlanta Ave. east of Lewis) to I-44.

“I signed the contract two months before I actually went in and it was supposed to be open before I actually moved in.” Owens said.

The entire project is still a few weeks away from being complete. Hang in there Tulsa.
