TPD chief announces officer fundraiser final total

The chief joined the KRMG Morning News to announce an incredible amount raised for the families of murdered Sgt Craig Johnson and injured officer Aurash Zarkeshan.

“$547,018″ the chief began. Franklin describing the effort as “incredible” before updating the condition of officer Zarkeshan. “He’s doing great, each day he continues to make improvements,” Franklin told us.

Franklin believes the money raised will be put to use right away. “They’re looking at moving him to a facility to assist him in his recovery efforts” he said. And with that rehab center out of state, “this money raised is going to go a long way in helping the family be with him during that recovery,” the chief continued.

Franklin finished by telling KRMG how amazed he still is with the turnout for Johnson’s funeral, and procession. “Really taken aback by the outpouring of support shown there,” Franklin commented. “We had agencies from all over the United States present and people lining the route,” he concluded.

The chief is giving Sgt. Johnson’s family time to process the tragedy before contacting them about the fundraiser, and how to move forward.

“Just way, way, more than what I expected, it was incredible.”
