Toddler drowns, responding officer was the foster father

Wife pulled the girl from the pool and tried to revive her

Police say a 2-year-old girl died in a backyard pool around 9:30 Tuesday morning in Sand Springs.

One of the officers who responded to the call near 51st and 129th West Avenue was the child's foster father. Two other foster children were also in the home. One is related to the victim.

The wife says the toddler wondered off. When she found the little girl, she tried C-P-R. Investigators say the child was pronounced dead on the scene.

The DHS removed the two other children pending results of this investigation.

The drowning is under investigation by the Sand Springs Police Department as well as DHS. The medical examiner will make the ruling as to the cause of death.

Sand Springs Police have identified the young girl as Mia Teaff. Mia was in the care of her foster mother Amber Alexander at the time of the incident. Mrs. Alexander is the wife of Sgt. Kyle Alexander, a Sand Springs police officer, who was on duty and not present in the home at the time of the incident.
