Thieves break into car while people walk on trail in east Tulsa

An east Tulsa couple was only away from their car for about 45 minutes, and that's all it took for crooks to break in and steal a purse with credit cards and a driver's license.

Jason and Leslie Shelton went for a walk on the trail around the reservoir near 21st street and County Line Road.

When they got back, their car window was broken out.

“I tried to conceal it and have tinted windows on top of that,” she said. “Thought it would be alright. Obviously I was wrong.”

Leslie said she had thrown a coat over the purse, but the purse was gone.

Her husband recommends that people put valuables in the trunk of their vehicle if it has one.

If not, he said you should just take your driver's license to the trail when exercising, so you can carry it with you.
