The family with the most Christmas lights in the world is.....

Over a half million lights on display

The Richards family, who has a record busting 502,165 lights requiring 31 miles of lights on their residential property.

That smashes the old mark by nearly 150,000 bulbs. More important, a Guinness Book of World Records rep confirmed the display sets a new standard.

They're more than full of holiday cheer, they’ve maxed out on it.

Richards told The Telegraph his Christmas palace took some time, and wasn't cheap. "I started in October," David began. "I took a week off in October to go on holiday and I've been working ever since" he added.

David Richards leads the Canberra, Australia family of five. Joining in the project are wife Janean, and children Aidan, Caitlin, and Madelyn.

As for the cost “It’s about another $2,500 per month for the month of December in power” Richards pointed out.

Richard’s family held the record in 2011 with just over 300,000 lights but a family in LaGrangeville, NY took over last year when they displayed 346,283 lights.
