Suspect uses child as shield in standoff with police

Tulsa, Okla. — A man is arrested after a short standoff with Tulsa police.

A text message had been sent at 1:25 a.m. Thursday to call police to report that a man with a gun had been trying to choke his wife in front of their daughter.

Tulsa Police Captain Eric Nelson said the man had bitten an officer on the arm during the arrest near 1400 North Urbana Avenue.

The suspect was arrested around 1:45 a.m. on charges, including resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

The officer was treated at the scene.

The wife and daughter were not hurt.
