Store begins charging customers 'just looking' fee

Some sorry the trend could spread

The practice of shopping a store to then buy online or elsewhere is not new but one woman has had enough of it.

"I've had a gut full of working and not getting paid" said the store owner. Georgina runs a specialty grocery story in Brisbane, Australia.

She put up a sign in February warning customers they would be charged $5.00 if they looked and didn’t buy anything.

She says if the shopper later decided to buy something from her store, the five bucks would be taken off the purchase price.

The sign says, in part "there has been high volume of people who use this store as a reference and then purchase goods elsewhere."

Georgina claims she has seen many other stores in her city begin the same policy.

Shoppers aren’t sold on the new rule. One told a reporter "my immediate reaction would be to leave."
