Tulsa police cannot retrieve stolen property even after a cell phone GPS tells them where it is.
Tulsa Police Sergeant Brett Bilyeu tells us the victim's laptop had been stolen from a vehicle and traced to a residence near 1100 South Quincy Avenue around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, but it will require a search warrant to be issued before the computer can be recovered.
"(Police) do not have the authority to force open a door to go retrieve someone's property. That's not enough probable cause," Bilyeu said.
We're told that the investigation will continue if a search warrant can be obtained.
GPS devices on cell phones and other small electronic devices are not exact, he said.
