The Oklahoma Senate unanimously passed the bill prohibiting companies from asking employees for social media site passwords.
The bill also protects potential employees from the same thing, which could inhibit someone from being hired based on what he or she posts online.
Senator Kyle Loveless says it’s an extension of older privacy laws.
The bill also protects companies from employees who may want to post company secrets or business product on Facebook or Twitter.
“A generation ago, an employer could not go through your personal effects, your personal letters that you get at home and this is basically an extension of that.” Sen. Loveless said.
The bill will make one final pass through the House for approval and then it will move on to Governor Mary Fallin’s desk for consideration.
