South Tulsa car fire results in total loss for owner

The driver though the car was overheating

Thick black smoke drifted over 71st and Yale just before 3 o'clock today as a Volkswagen was engulfed in flames behind Charleston's Restaurant.

Through an interpreter, the driver of the car told Tulsa Fire Department officials on the scene that she had been driving down the road and noticed that the "oil was running hot" and she decided she should pull over and park.

She said that's when the car went up in smoke, followed by flames.

TFD says that she suffered some minor smoke inhalation and was given oxygen by paramedics at the scene.

She was able to get out of the vehicle safely and walk up to her job at a nearby Sonic.

The car appears to be a total loss.
