Someone throws axes at tree in Woodward Park

Axe-throwing has become a popular new pastime in Tulsa, but someone took the hobby a little too far and to the wrong place.

City of Tulsa park workers on Sunday morning discovered that someone had painted a bulls-eye on one of the oldest oak trees in Woodward Park near 21st and Peoria and thrown axes into it several times.

Parks Director Anna America points out there are several venues in town that offer axe-throwing.

She says besides the fact it can kill the tree, it's obviously dangerous to anyone nearby.

“Someone's got a hankering to throw an axe, they need to go do it at one of those places, not at our trees,” she said.

Somehow the person did it without being noticed.

America says workers will be on the lookout for any future incidents and will notify police if they catch anyone doing it again.
