Social Security Administration launches campaign against nationwide scam

Scammers are calling cell phones nationwide claiming that your social security number has been suspended.

The administration has received several reports from people who say the caller claims to be an employee and asks for money to avoid your arrest.

“I want every American to know that if a suspicious caller states there is a problem with their Social Security number or account, they should hang up and never give the caller money or personal information, said Commissioner Andrew Saul.

Social Security employees do occasionally call people, but don’t threaten people.

Most of the time the Social Security Administration contacts people by mail.
