Shutdown affects screening for illegal aliens

State lawmaker worried because 'E-Verify' system is offline

Seems like there's no end to the effects of the government shutdown.

A state lawmaker says the system that checks for undocumented workers isn't working, he says, because of the shutdown.

Chickasha Democrat David Perryman says the e-Verify system is offline, and he says companies and city governments have to either delay hiring people until it's back online, or else risk hiring illegal aliens and breaking the law.

He calls the shutdown "foolish, dangerous, and irresponsible".
