"Self-guided bullets" tested, never miss a target again

Company test was successful

Look out bad guys, soon the bullets will be able to follow you.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has had successful tests of their new EXACTO ammunition.

Called Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance, the 0.50 bullets are able to adjust with “in-flight guidance.”

DARPA explains the bullets like this.

The company explained the ammo carries an optical guidance system that adjusts for weather, and movement of the intended target.

“The system combines a maneuverable bullet and a real-time guidance system to track and deliver the projectile to the target, allowing the bullet to change path during flight to compensate for any unexpected factors that may drive it off course. Technology development in Phase II included the design, integration and demonstration of aero-actuation controls, power sources, optical guidance systems, and sensors.”
