See video of skydiver landing on shortstop before game

Player surprised, unhurt

The teams were in the middle of batting and fielding practice as the skydiver was entering the stadium.

As shortstop Mattingly Romanin watched he kept thinking the guy with the parachute would adjust his flight path and glide right by him.

He didn’t.

Romanin told the Quincy Herald-Whig "before they jumped, they had one of their crew members come out and tell us, 'If they're coming right for you, and it looks like they're going to hit you, don't move. They'll avoid you. "So that's my excuse for not getting out of the way."

The skydiver clocked Romanin and the two went tumbling, both staying on the ground for several minutes.

Romanin turned out to be fine and even turned a double play in the first inning of the game between his Hannibal Cavemen and the Terre Haute Rex.

Hannibal lost 7-3.
