Sand Springs adds rumble strip to help prevent wrecks along 41st Street

SAND SPRINGS, Ok — The new, noisy tire bumps are intended to help prevent wrecks along 41st Street near Highway 97 in Sand Springs.

Police said that nine recent accidents reported in the area happened because drivers crossed the center line. Two of those accidents were deadly.

The Streets Department recommended installing a rumble strip along the center to deter drivers from crossing. City leaders used $18,000 of dedicated sales tax money for streets to add the rumble strip to the budget.

Police Chief Mike Carter said with more and distractions inside the car, he’s not surprised to see drivers crossing the center line more often.
