Rogers Co. Sheriff looking for suspects in fatal shooting of cow

Rogers County Sheriff's Deputies are looking for whoever fatally shot a cow in a pasture northwest of the town of Chelsea.

Capt. Jerry Smittle says it happened Thursday evening.

He said they cow was pregnant, and veterinarians were able to save the calf, but now he says it will take considerable time and expense to bottlefeed the calf.

Just the loss of one cow like this can cost a rancher thousands of dollars.

He said ranchers invest a lot of time and money in their livestock.

"And this one's been removed from the herd, so y'know it's a loss,"  he said.  "You're talking about people's livelihoods."

There have been at least two other incidents in Rogers County where livestock have been killed.

In one case, the motive was simply vandalism, but in another case, Capt. Smittle said the people actually slaughtered the cow right on the spot so they could steal the meat.
