Claremore, Okla. — Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton has written an open letter in support of Tulsa police officer Betty Shelby.
Sheriff Walton, a former Tulsa officer himself, feels that the system was stacked against Shelby from the beginning.
“...a very rapid decision was made to say Betty Shelby was in error and the system we know as criminal justice was started against her.” Walton wrote.
“That hesitation can lead to folded flags being given to grieving families.” Walton added.
Walton said the outcome of the trial could change the way officers react to dangerous situations, creating a hesitation.
Sheriff Walton makes it clear his words are his opinion, but also points out that his opinion comes from 36 years of law enforcement service.
