Rogers County deputy shoots, kills man after pursuit

Suspect reached for deputy's gun, according to Sheriff Scott Walton

A man was shot and killed by a Rogers County deputy Tuesday morning, according to Sheriff Scott Walton.

Sheriff Walton said it started when deputies attempted to stop a driver near I-44 and 161st East Avenue around 2am.

We’re told the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a slow-speed chase to near Admiral and 129th East Avenue in Tulsa.

The suspect is then said to have charged deputies on foot and a fight began.

Sheriff Walton said the suspect rammed a deputy’s vehicle. Walton said the pursuit continued before the suspect’s vehicle left the roadway.

Sheriff Walton said the suspect was able to partially unholster one deputy’s weapon. That’s when another deputy shot the suspect.

The suspect died, according to the sheriff.
