Riders say rain isn’t enough to keep them from riding this weekend.
Over 1,000 cyclists will participate in Tulsa Tough this weekend. The first race kicked off at 6:15 p.m. Friday evening.
This year, police are stepping up their presence to keep the riders safe.
Riders come in from all over the country to race and the say the rain is just another element.
“We will be making sure we work with that and look and see if it’s going to be so bad we will get the race officials and have them make a call. We don’t want to endanger any bicyclists or any other spectators,” said Officer Craig Murray with Tulsa police.
“I wouldn’t say worried. It’s just a different element for us. We are used to really dry heat. 110 degrees is okay with us, but I think it's 80 and I am sweating more than I usually do,” said rider Joy McCulloch.
The races will be delayed or canceled if there is lightning, hail or extremely high winds.
