Reports say DA will not ask for death penalty in rape, murder of Nancy Strait

Bob and Nancy Strait attacked in March, 2012

The crime shocked the city.

84-year old Nancy Strait and her 89 year old husband Bob were found badly beaten in their Tulsa home in March of 2012.

Nancy had also been raped.

Then 19 year old Tyrone Woodfork was arrested for the crime and the legal process began.

Nancy died from her injuries the next day, Bob hung on until May before he died as well.

Yesterday media reports confirmed that the Tulsa District Attorney’s office will not seek the death penalty in the case due to Woodfork’s IQ.

Reports say Woodfork has mental limitations that take the death penalty off the table and leaves life in prison with or without parole as the probable sentence sought.

There is both state and federal law dictating the handling of cases of defendants with reduced mental capabilities.

Woodfork has admitted he broke into the house and attacked the couple but denies raping Nancy Strait.

A trial date has been set for October.
