Red Cross reverses decision, will hold text donations for Oklahoma

Money previously went to national fund

The Red Cross made their about face after pushback on their policy of sending the money that comes by text to their giant national fund.

When that fact was pointed out social media lit up with complaints and the organization got calls and emails complaining.

Once the organization saw the reaction they reversed their field and made the following statement.

The text service alone has collected just under $4 million in donations spurred when Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant donated $1 million and asked his fans to use the Red Cross text service to donate.

“Text donations to the American Red Cross since Monday will be used for our response to the Oklahoma storms. We believe this is consistent with the wishes of text donors who were motivated to contribute by the devastation and damage caused by the tornadoes in Oklahoma. For perspective, the Red Cross took the same step with text donations when Superstorm Sandy hit last October.”
